Is Storyvote really free?

Yes. Every feature is free for every team, with no time limit. There is no paid plan to upgrade to, nothing is locked behind a paywall, and you will never be asked for a credit card. Read why Storyvote is free.

What's the catch?

There isn't one. Storyvote is an independent project built to make estimation easy. Every feature is free to use, and you don't need to sign up or give us your email address.

Will it become paid later?

No. Storyvote will stay free. We won't move existing features behind a paywall or introduce paid tiers.

Are there limits on players, rooms or stories?

No. Create as many rooms as you need, invite your whole team, and add as many stories as your backlog holds.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no registration and no password to remember. You only type the name your teammates will see.

Getting started

What is planning poker?

Planning poker is a way for agile teams to estimate work together. Everyone picks a card in secret, then all cards are revealed at once. Hidden votes stop the first or loudest opinion from anchoring everyone else, and big differences start the conversation that matters.

How do I start a session?

Create a room: give it a name, choose a card deck and enter your name. Then copy the invitation link and share it with your team in chat or a meeting.

How do my teammates join?

They open the invitation link and type their name. That's all: nothing to install and no account to create. It works in any modern browser, on desktop and on phones.

Which card decks can I use?
  • Fibonacci (0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, ?, ☕)
  • Modified Fibonacci (0, ½, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 20, 40, 100, ?, ☕)
  • T-shirts (XS, S, M, L, XL, ?, ☕)
  • Powers of 2 (0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, ?, ☕)
  • Custom deck (your own cards)

Pick "Custom deck" to type your own cards instead, for example "1, 2, 4, 8" or "Easy, Hard": up to 20 cards of up to 4 characters each. "?" means unsure and "☕" asks for a break; neither counts towards the results. The host can change the deck at any time in Settings.

Running a session

Who controls the game?

Whoever creates the room is its host. The host can make any participant a facilitator, and facilitators can add and edit stories, start voting, reveal the cards and save estimates. Renaming the room, changing the deck and ending the session stay with the host.

Can we estimate frontend and backend separately?

Yes. When you create a room you can choose disciplines, for example FE, BE and QA (up to six). A story can then be split so each discipline gets its own estimate, and the stories panel shows the total.

Can votes be anonymous?

Yes. Turn on anonymous voting when creating a room. Everyone then sees only how many people picked each card, never who voted what.

Can I protect my room with a password?

Yes. Set a password when creating the room. New participants must enter it once; people already in the room can rejoin freely.

What happens if I close my browser?

Your identity is kept in a cookie that lasts until you close the browser, and it is shared across tabs. After closing the browser you can rejoin with the invitation link, but as a new participant, so a host loses host control. Keep the browser open while you run a session.

Does Storyvote integrate with Jira or Azure DevOps?

Not directly. Add a story's ticket key (for example PROJ-123) next to its title. Because Storyvote never connects to your tools, it never needs access to your backlog.

Privacy and data

How long is session data kept?

Rooms, names, stories and votes are deleted as soon as the host ends the session. Rooms that are never ended are deleted automatically 7 days after they were last used. Want something deleted sooner? Email us the room code.

Is my data safe?

All traffic is encrypted, votes stay on the server until they're revealed, and we collect only what a session needs. See Security and our Privacy Policy for details. Please don't enter confidential information in story titles.

Do you use cookies?

Just one, which keeps you signed in to your rooms until you close the browser. See our Cookie Policy for details.
